How To Repair Kenmore Ice Dispenser
Hardware:
- Kenmore Coldspot Side-By-Side Refrigerator, Model 106.59282990
- Dispenser Door Flap (if you were to supercede the door versus repairing the foam like I'm doing)
- Dispenser Parts (if you want to supervene upon the entire set of parts)
We were getting tons of frost around the inside of the ice dispenser on our Kenmore Coldspot Side-past-Side. Later on inspecting a lilliputian more my feeling was that the foam on the inside of the door that I believe is supposed to insulate and seal the door shut was chewed up quite a bit from over a decade of use and that is where the (hot moist) air was getting in and causing all the frost.
I decided to have it apart and see what I could exercise.

Step 2: Disconnect the ice door wiring connector. Pull the ribbon cable out of the connector for the water ice door. I honestly don't know what this connector does for sure. The only thing I can approximate is that there is a 2W heater in the door to keep it from freezing close (the ribbon says 2.0W 120V on it).
Step 3: Remove the plastic command bracket. At that place are two screws in the lower left and lower right of the subclass. They are 1/4″ slotted hex head screws. You tin use a flat head screwdriver merely I practice anything I can to avoid using a flat head because you merely constantly slip off the head and gouge whatever yous are working on.

Stride four: Movement the control bracket out of the way and secure it with tape. This isn't necessary but I wanted to be able to work without the obstruction of this mass of plastic hanging in my way. I forgot to take a picture but I simply used clear packing record and wrapped information technology around the bracket then taped information technology upwards and to the right as far away as the wiring would allow.
Pace 5: Remove the articulate plastic ice funnel. It is hooked on the lesser and locks into place on the summit. Carefully pull the tiptop away from the door and and then once it has unsnapped lift it upwards and unhook it from the bottom catch:
Every bit you can meet from the pictures to a higher place, I removed the screw that holds the retainer bound on the inside side of both the ice dispenser lever and the water dispenser lever. I don't think this is necessary. But, I did remove both dispenser levers and cleaned them real skillful considering they were real dirty.
Pace 6: Disconnect the door (vacuum) damper.This is the little black cylinder with a wire attaching it to the white function of the door and a rubber grommet holding the other terminate in place. Information technology is what slows the door downwardly when it is shutting (and adds that strange noise it makes when you are done dispensing water ice–similar those toys that sound like a farm animate being when you tip them back and forth–this thing works in the same mode). Anyhow, pull information technology straight out:
Pace 7: Remove the ice dispenser door. Before I did this I stuffed a plastic bag in the water ice dispenser pigsty to keep all the hot air from getting in there:

I first super glued the piece in place and so used v-minute epoxy to bolster it upwardly (since information technology would surely never stand the pressure with super glue lone):
Footstep 8: Rebuild the foam seal. Now this is where we have to ad-lib. I simply so happened to have some foam tape that I'd been itching to use on some special project for a long time. A side note: I believe the clear plastic in the middle of the door is to protect the foam from getting torn upwardly when ice cubes hitting it over and over again.

One other thing:I also thawed the water ice maker ice bin and noticed that there was ice up inside the front cover so I took it off past start unscrewing the v screws that hold it on the face up (ane inside the bin towards the tiptop and 2 on each side around the lip of the water ice bin.
